Work Smarter Not Harder with High Intensity Interval Training and Tabata
I'm inspired by some of the new research in exercise science that shows the benefits of High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT - working out at high intensity for much shorter periods of time than we have been led to believe are necessary for building stamina, strengthening the cardiovascular system and reducing body fat.
In the excerpt on the right, from his article, 10 Minutes of Exercise Yields Hours of Effects, Dr Joseph Mercola outlines such a workout.
Tabata workouts offer similar benefits in a short period of time (with shorter rests between intervals). You can even download a Tabata Timer app for your iPhone or iPad to help you time the intervals.
